Here it comes: The ultimate list of the 22 most beautiful places in the world. No, of course that’s nonsense. There can be no such list. Everyone has their personal favorite places and there should even be people who think Munich is more beautiful than Berlin. Crazy, right?
We have been on the road a lot in the past few years and have seen many wonderful places. But there are only a few who have really made a lasting impression on us. And these are exactly the places we want to introduce you to here.
In total there are of course exactly 22 places. 22places. This list will change again and again, we haven’t seen the whole world by a long way.
Which places are now on the list? Good question. Just all the places that we found particularly cool and impressive.
It can be a specific place, an entire country, a view or landscape, maybe a restaurant or a market or even a city.
We’ll start right away with an entire country: Myanmar. No country has made such a lasting impression on us as this beautiful country that has long been isolated from the outside world.
There are so many wonderful places in Myanmar that we don’t want to decide which one is exactly. That wouldn’t be fair.
Bagan , the city of temples! Or Mandalay with its extraordinary temples and the longest wooden bridge in the world. Or the former capital Yangon , with the wonderful Shwedagon Pagoda.
Or Mrauk U in the north, where few tourists go because of the difficult journey. As you can see, we just can’t decide where to go.
2 Siquijor, Philippines
The small island of Siquijor in the Philippines simply enchanted us and so it is currently number 2 here. If you had asked us what our dream island looks like, we would have described the island of Siquijor to you without even knowing it .
Endless sandy beaches, almost no cars, great people, the most beautiful sunsets of all and still relatively few tourists – huh, we actually want to go straight back.
3 New York
We love New York! you know that Jenny lived there for a year after graduating from high school. Since then, the city has burned itself deeply into her heart.
In 2018 we were the first in town together, we felt very comfortable there and decided to stop by at least once a year from now on. Sounds ambitious, doesn’t it? Let’s see if we can do it.
If you’ve never been to New York, we warmly recommend a visit to the city. If you love cities, you will love New York.
And if you have already been to New York, we can tell you: The city is always worth a trip and New York changes every day and you will be amazed at all the new things to discover on your next visit.
We met in Berlin, spent way too hot summers and way too cold winters together. There we decided on a gray October evening to completely change our lives in order to be able to work and live from anywhere in the world.
And yet, when we arrive at Berlin Airport, get on the S-Bahn and the Berliners are simply Berliners, we know that we are at home.
5 Wolf on the Moselle & Erfurt
We have assigned two locations to No. 5: Our hometowns, which are simply beautiful.
Jenny comes from Wolf, a small, tranquil village with 800 inhabitants on the Moselle. Surrounded by vineyards, lots of idyll and even more vineyards.
It is wonderfully tranquil here and we always like to come back and enjoy the peace and quiet and the great landscape. And of course the wine. And Gräwes (mashed potatoes + sauerkraut), wild boar sausage and spit roast.
Basti comes from Erfurt, one of the most underrated cities of all. The old town is just wonderful, there is a very lively cultural scene, the most beautiful Christmas market in Germany and the best football club in the world. What more do you want?
Vienna was the big surprise in our travel year 2017. The city had been on our list for a long time and we had already adjusted to the fact that Vienna is a very beautiful city.
We did not expect that the city would cast a spell over us. Vienna is not only incredibly worth seeing, the city also makes an extremely livable impression on us. We could really imagine moving in there.
Japan really blew us away too. There you really feel like you are in a different world and every day is a new experience.
Here, too, we couldn’t decide on a specific place and without further ado we put the whole country on our list of the most beautiful places in the world.
There is so much to discover in Japan: the huge metropolis Tokyo , the historic city of Kyoto , the surprising Osaka or the impressive Hiroshima . Japan is diverse and definitely a trip to anyone.
8 Karijini National Park
We were deeply impressed by the Karijini National Park in Western Australia . To be honest, we were very excited about Western Australia in general.
Goosebumps are already spreading while writing and we would like to beam ourselves back there immediately. We both agree that our visit to the national park was not the last.
Seldom has a landscape made such a lasting impression on us: deep red rock, deep gorges, dreamy sunsets, a breathtaking starry sky and above all so much “nothing”.
Pete West, our guide in the Karjini National Park told us “We love this piece of earth for everything that is not here”. To understand that, you have to visit this amazing place yourself!
Lisbon shouldn’t be missing from our list. We just couldn’t decide on a specific place in the city, because it’s the atmosphere and the flair that make Lisbon something special for us.
We spent a whole month in Lisbon and let the spring in the city enchant us.
10 Festival of Lights in Chiang Mai, Thailand
We are always drawn to Chiang Mai in the winter months. We feel at home there now. It goes without saying that the city in northern Thailand has to be on our list.
Chiang Mai is particularly impressive in November when the Thais celebrate the Festival of Lights there. The entire city is in a state of emergency and thousands of small hot air balloons rise
into the sky.
